For 81 years, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) has been the place where Manufacturing comes Together.  Founded in 1932, amid the Great Depression, by a group of tool engineers and master mechanics who organized to collaborate on how to build the automobile.  Starting with thirty-three members, the organization was originally named the Society of Tool Engineers.  A year later, it was renamed the American Society of Tool Engineers.  On February 25, 1941, Chapter 039 was founded in Seattle, Washington.  The organization finally became the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 1969.

Today, SME is the world's leading professional society supporting manufacturing education.  Through its member programs, publications, expositions, and professional development resources, SME promotes an increased awareness of manufacturing engineering and helps keep manufacturing professionals up to date on leading trends and technologies.

We would like to extend a special thank you to past SME Chapter 39 Chairs over the past 72 years for their contributions toward supporting manufacturing education and awareness in the Puget Sound area.
